ALL DONE – Results Day is Thursday 21st August. With such nice questions I am confident you will have aced the exams!
The year in a nutshell:
GCSE English Language
Unit 1 Understanding and Producing Non-Fiction Texts (Tuesday 5 November)
Results for the November exam – Thursday 9 January
GCSE English Literature
Unit 1 Exploring Modern text – The Woman in Black/Of Mice and Men (Tuesday 20 May)
Unit 2 Poetry Across Time – Poetry Cluster from the Anthology/Unseen Poem (Thursday 22 May)
Here’s the plan for the next half term. You will notice I have included a list of the number of the lesson left plus generic focuses for each lesson/weekly homeworks. There is room for negotiation if you want to focus on specific things. After Easter I will offer revision classes based on areas you feel least confident with – as per last time these will be lunchtime and after school.

I am applying for a college can you suggest which English course I would be suited to English language or literature or a mix.
It would depend upon what the college offer and also what you find most interesting.
Literature – you will need to read a lot. It is subjective and will be similar to what we are doing in class at the moment but at a higher level. If you do not enjoy reading, I would suggest avoiding Literature at A Level.
Language is much more analytical; similar to what we did with the Spoken Language Controlled Assessment but looking at both written and spoken communication. With Language you get to do your own creative writing as part of the coursework along with a commentary critiquing your writing style.
If the college offer Lit/Lang Combined it might be worth considering if you are uncertain as to which one to pick.
Happy to talk to you about this next week!
